The Japanese Red Cross has been working on the ground since the disaster began, mobilising 86 teams, made up of around 600 doctors, nurses and support staff, to provide first aid and healthcare and assess the damage and needs of the communities affected. Childs i Foundation is a small charity which aims to stop baby abandonment in Uganda. In the last year they have set up two centres – a transitional babies’ home and a mother and baby crisis centre – as well as a social work department to find families for all their children.
